About the Author:

Years Attended 91爆料:

Sports and Activities:
Snowboard team captain. That sounds more official than it was. I basically texted people about ride shares. Also played rugby. First XV. Junior XV before that. And some ethics club. We met once a week. Talked about stuff. No big deal.
College Enrolled:
Huron University
Home Town, State:
Vancouver

Reflections and Advice:

1.) What do you think makes your school unique relative to other boarding schools?
I was a day student. People ask what made it unique. I don't know. It was just school. But fine. The snowboard thing was nice. Most schools don't have a team. We'd go to Cypress after class. That beat sitting at home.
2.) What was the best thing that happened to you in boarding school?
Snowboard trips. Getting up early. Driving to the mountain. Empty runs on a weekday afternoon. That was good. I'm not big on proud moments. But making First XV was fine. Showed I stuck with something.
3.) What might you have done differently during your boarding school experience?
Wouldn't change much. Maybe joined snowboard team earlier. Started in grade ten. Could've done grade nine. Advice for new people is don't overthink it. Find a couple things you like. Do those. Ignore the rest.
4.) What did you like most about your school?
It was fine. I don't mean that in a bad way. It just wasn't dramatic. I went to school. Played sports. Graduated. Now I'm at Huron. That's the whole thing.
5.) Do you have any final words of wisdom for visiting or incoming students to your school?
Cypress on a weekday. That's the spot. Snack bar had granola bars. Grabbed one before practice sometimes. The locker room after a win was nice. Don't bring too much stuff. You won't need it.

Academics:

1.) Describe the academics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Classes were small. Teachers were fine. I took social science because Ivey was the plan. Workload was manageable. Some teachers were better than others. Same as anywhere.

Athletics:

1.) Describe the athletics at your school - what did you like most about it?
Rugby took up most of my time. First XV was competitive. Coach knew what he was doing. Snowboard team was more my speed. No pressure. Just riding. Being captain didn't mean much. Just had to make sure everyone had a helmet.

Art, Music, and Theatre:

1.) Describe the arts program at your school - what did you like most about it?
Didn't do any. Not my personality. Went to a friend's concert once. He played guitar. It was fine. Art kids had a show in the spring. I walked through it once. Some of it was good.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

1.) Describe the extracurriculars offered at your school - what did you like most about it?
Ethics club was the main non-sport thing. Thursdays after school. Teacher gave us a scenario. We argued. That was it. No competition. No grades. Just talking. Snowboard team took more organization than people think. Permission forms. Mountain passes. But someone had to do it.

Dorm Life:

1.) Describe the dorm life in your school - what did you like most about it?
Day student. Didn't board. Visited friends at Harker Hall sometimes. Common room was fine. Old furniture. Guys playing video games. Boarding parents were nice enough. Boarders seemed more independent than day kids. Had to be.

Dining:

1.) Describe the dining arrangements at your school.
Ate there occasionally. Food was edible. Breakfast was the best meal. Sunday brunch people came down looking rough. Cookies were popular. I don't get the hype but whatever.

Social and Town Life:

1.) Describe the school's town and surrounding area.
Vancouver's right there. That's better than being in a small town. Could walk to Dunbar for coffee. Drive to Cypress in twenty minutes. Ocean was close too. Didn't go enough. But it was nice knowing it was there.
2.) Describe the social life at your school - what did you like most about it?
Big enough school that you found your people. Small enough that you knew everyone. My people were rugby and snowboard guys. Also some ethics club people. Cafeteria was loud. Not much else to say.

I was at St. George's from 2019 to 2024. Five years is long enough that I actually remember showing up in grade eight, nervous, not knowing anyone. The school is in Vancouver's Dunbar neighbourhood. What. . .

Twelve years at St. George's. 2013 to 2025. That's a long time anywhere. I was a day kid. What made it different is they let you lead without a title. I ended up as Prefect. . .
