Future Educators

Preparing the next generation of teachers and school leaders begins long before individuals enter an educator preparation program (EPP). New York State is committed to inspiring, informing, and supporting future educators by helping them understand the many pathways into the profession and by strengthening early connections with schools, communities, and EPPs.

This page features key statewide initiatives that advance this work by elevating the profession, offering clear guidance for those considering a career in education, and supporting locally designed efforts to nurture aspiring educators.

  • Grow Your Own Programs:ÌýA statewide approach that helps Local Education Agencies (LEAs) cultivate future educators from within their own communities. These initiatives support LEAs in designing locally responsive pathways that attract and develop diverse candidates — including teaching assistants, secondary students, non-certified staff, and other community members — through strong partnerships and targeted supports that guide candidates on their path to certification.
  • TeachNY Initiative:ÌýA statewide partnership with TEACH.org that provides a centralized hub for prospective teachers to explore the profession, access free advising and resources, learn about funding and preparation programs, and receive support throughout the application and certification process.
